Ashley is a Qualified and Registered Veterinary Nurse having completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2014. Ashley has been honing her Vet Nursing skills in the beautiful Margaret River region before relocating to Perth where we were lucky enough to grab her! Ashley has a 4 year old cat called Rhani. Which pets have left paw prints on your heart?
"Shimba was a beautiful German Shepherd who entered my life when I was 9 years old. We grew up together and she was my first love. She reached a grand old age of 12.
Rhani is a DSH with attitude. I hand raised her from 5 weeks and she has always been a wild child. I’m relieved to say she is now becoming more snuggly in her older age."
Why did you become a vet nurse and what do you enjoy most about your job?
“ My love and passion for animals from a very young age, guided me in the direction of this career when I was 16 and I have never second guessed it. I’m grateful for the opportunity to smother pets in love whilst they are here and work alongside great vets to ensure your pet is well looked after and to help relieve any pain or suffering. The best part of my job is seeing a patient that has been very unwell, unhappy and hospitalised, go home behaving like a completely different pet because they feel so much better! Seeing a dog that hasn’t eaten for 5 days eat a small piece of chicken from my hand after I’ve spent 2 days nursing it and coaxing it to eat again, definitely reminds me of why I chose this career”.
How do you relax when you’re not at work?
“ In summer I love going to the beach. I love places like Margaret River and Exmouth. I really enjoy spontaneous outdoor adventures to hidden lakes, rivers and dams and going for bush walks.
I’m very friend and family (and pet) orientated. I think it’s important to spend time with the people who are important to me, so I really enjoy spending quality time with them when I can."
Share something weird or wonderful about yourself
“Hmmm, If you look close enough, my eyes are often two different colours! I also have an amazing tattoo of my beautiful Shimba on the inside of my forearm. It reminds me every day how lucky I was to love her.”
